Neuchatel is a French-speaking canton on the lake of the same name, historically the heart of the Swiss watchmaking industry and still home to a concentration of precision-industry employers. Its property market is smaller and generally more affordable than the Lake Geneva cantons, with the city of Neuchatel as the main urban center and a mostly rural, vineyard-covered hinterland. Population growth here has been slower than in Vaud or Geneva.
